Better Beer, a high-profile beverage brand, required a highly visible, custom-fabricated event signage for their presence at the Laneway Festival in Brisbane and future events. Their brief was unique and challenging: to build a substantial, eye-catching festoon-style event signage that could be easily broken down and packed into a travel case for national transport, yet be simple and quick to reassemble on-site. The sign also needed to be durable enough for any outdoor conditions.
The Challenge: Durability Meets Ultimate Portability
The major challenge was engineering a sign that defied conventional design rules. We needed to achieve two competing goals simultaneously:
- Lightweight Construction: The sign had to be light enough to be portable and cost-effective to ship interstate.
- Structural Integrity: It had to be strong enough to withstand continuous packing, transport, and exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions without compromising the lighting or structure.
Solution: Modular Design and Precision Fabrication

- Custom Lightweight Frame: We designed and built a modular framing system from scratch using high-strength, lightweight aluminium. This framing system allowed the sign to be quickly assembled with simple connections and completely dismantled into compact sections suitable for custom travel casing.
- Outdoor Festoon Lighting: We precision-fabricated the lettering and integrated high-grade, outdoor-rated festoon illuminated signage. The electrical connections were designed to be plug-and-play, ensuring quick, safe reassembly by non-specialist event staff on site.
- Resilient Materials: All materials were selected for their resilience to transport wear-and-tear and UV exposure, guaranteeing the sign’s pristine appearance over many events.
