Queen Street Village

Queen Street Village, a vibrant integrated precinct in Southport, Gold Coast, required a comprehensive revamp of their identification and wayfinding signage. Working alongside Art-Work, our mission was to translate a high-concept design into functional, real-world items that would improve navigation across the multi-level site. Having partnered with the agency on several previous projects, we were tasked with delivering a cohesive system that integrated seamlessly with the centre’s modern architecture.

The Challenge: Precision Fitment and Budget Efficiency

The core challenge was engineering a solution for this building’s large circular support columns. Traditional rigid signage on curved surfaces often requires expensive, bulky frameworks that can exceed project budgets. We needed to achieve two competing goals simultaneously:

  • Structural Adaptation: The signage had to conform perfectly to the circular pillars without the need for heavy, costly framing.
  • Operational Continuity: The installation required a full-centre rollout across car parks, walkways, and entrances while maintaining strict safety protocols and avoiding disruption to daily trade.

Solution: High-Conformity Fabrication and Strategic Planning

Our team at Shogun Signs approached this Gold Coast project with a focus on specialist material application to ensure a premium finish within the client’s budget:

  • Frameless Column Wraps: We developed a custom solution using high-conformity materials that allowed the wayfinding signage to sit flush against the concrete pillars. This removed the need for traditional framework, resulting in a clean, architectural look that is both durable and cost-effective.
  • Integrated Site-Wide Rollout: We fabricated a diverse range of elements, including overhead walkway headers, entrance markers, and external standing pylon signage. Every piece was designed for maximum legibility and high-traffic resilience.
  • Coordinated Installation: To meet the project timeline, our team managed the entire installation process during quiet periods. This ensured all site-wide identification was in place early, following rigorous safety protocols without impacting the visitor experience.

The Outcome: A Seamless Visitor Journey

The final installation exceeded the client’s expectations for both aesthetic quality and functional performance. By solving the complex structural challenges of the site with smart fabrication techniques, we have transformed the centre into an easy-to-navigate environment, from the undercover parking levels to the primary dining and cinema precincts. This project has further solidified our partnership with Art-Work, resulting in a high-impact wayfinding system that now serves as a permanent, functional asset for Queen Street Village on the Gold Coast.
